Mario's Galactic Adventure Teaser Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
An Interstellar Journey Drawing from Classic Games
Similar to the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will venture away from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. On his epic voyage, he will reunite with some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow
The movie will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
Mario's Major Moment
The upcoming Mario film is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 looks set to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
The company has three new games already confirmed for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
