Learners Express Concerns That AI Is Weakening Their Learning Skills, Research Finds
As per latest investigation, students are sharing fears that using machine intelligence is weakening their ability to engage academically. A significant number report it renders schoolwork “too easy”, while others say it limits their innovative capacity and impedes them from learning additional competencies.
Broad Use of Artificial Intelligence By Students
A report examining the use of AI in United Kingdom learning centers discovered that merely 2% of learners aged 13 and 18 stated they did not use artificial intelligence for their schoolwork, while the vast majority said they frequently utilized it.
Unfavorable Influence on Competencies
In spite of AI’s widespread use, 62% of the learners stated it has had a unfavorable impact on their abilities and progress at their educational institution. One in four of the respondents affirmed that AI “facilitates accessing solutions without independent work”.
An additional 12% reported artificial intelligence “restricts my imaginative processes”, while similar numbers stated they were less inclined to address issues or produce innovative text.
Advanced Awareness Among Youth

Empirical Analyses and Additional Worries
The results correspond to research-based studies on the utilization of artificial intelligence in academics. A particular analysis measured cognitive signals while written assignments among learners using large language models and concluded: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”
Nearly half of the two thousand students surveyed reported they were anxious their fellow students were “secretly using AI” for academic work without their teachers being able to spot it.
Desire for Support and Constructive Elements
Many students reported that they desired more help from teachers for the correct use of artificial intelligence and in assessing whether its results was trustworthy. An initiative designed to aiding instructors with AI guidance is being launched.
“Several discoveries are likely to captivate teachers, particularly the high level of guidance pupils anticipate from them. Just 31% reported they didn’t think AI use had a unfavorable effect on any of their abilities. But, most of pupils reported using AI assisted them acquire additional competencies, for instance 18% who said it assisted them understand issues, and 15% who stated it helped them come up with “original and superior” thoughts.
Pupil Perspectives
When asked to elaborate, a 15-year-old girl remarked: “My comprehension of mathematics has improved, and AI assists me in tackling complex problems.”
Meanwhile, a young man aged 14 claimed: “My cognitive speed has increased compared to before.”
