Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially fatal collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident happened on the third lap when track officials were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his damaged front wing

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"During the third lap, safety personnel were notified and put on alert to enter the track and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send marshals were withdrawn and a double yellow flag was shown in that zone"
